How to use Total VPN Split Tunneling

Split tunneling is a feature in Total VPN that gives you more control over how your internet traffic is routed when the VPN is turned on. It lets you choose which traffic or services go through the secure VPN connection, and which ones use your regular internet connection.

How does Split Tunneling work?

When you enable split tunneling in Total VPN, the app uses your chosen settings to decide how to handle your internet traffic. On Windows device, Total VPN includes URL-based split tunneling, where you can enter specific websites and choose whether they should go through the VPN or bypass it. Once added, Total VPN automatically checks each website you visit and routes it accordingly—either through the secure, encrypted VPN connection or directly through your normal internet connection. This happens in real-time, once configured, allowing you to balance privacy, performance, and access to local content as needed.

On Android devices, Total VPN includes app-based split tunneling, which allows you to choose which apps use the VPN connection and which ones don't. This gives you full control over your privacy and performance—for example, you can keep streaming or banking apps outside the VPN for faster local access, while securing the rest of your traffic through the encrypted VPN tunnel. You can manage this easily from the settings menu in the TotalVPN app.
